COR™ 2020 (Certificate of Recognition) Auditing

Introduction to COR™

Certificate of Recognition (COR™) is a nationally recognized audit program endorsed by participating members of the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations (CFCSA) of which the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) of Ontario is a member. In addition to providing employers with an effective tool to assess their health and safety management system (HSMS), COR™ also confirms their OHSMS has been evaluated by a certified auditor and that it meets provincial Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) standards.

Not only does COR™ assist in facilitating better safety practices used by employers, feedback from annual audits encourages safer workplace behaviours by the workers, with the result being improved safety and operational performance overall. COR™ is currently being used across Canada in multiple industries (construction, industrial, transportation, mining, hospitality, retail, etc.) and serves as one of the major pre-qualification requirements for many contractors working on public/private sector projects throughout the provinces. In Ontario, the IHSA is the Authority having Jurisdiction to grant COR™ to firms who meet the program requirements, and who have successfully passed an audit by a certified COR™ Associate Auditor.

In early 2020, the COR™ program in Ontario grew to include assistance for firms interested in qualifying for financial rebates (in addition to recognition) from the MLITSD and WSIB.

COR™ Auditing Services

Daedalus is fully certified through the IHSA and our experienced COR™ Associate Auditor has participated in and/or personally conducted over 70 audits (including Joint Audits) for Ontario’s COR™ program, for businesses ranging from as few as 12 employees on payroll, to those with a staff count exceeding several thousand. In addition to single auditor services, we have the resources to facilitate team audits with other certified auditors to meet a client’s time-restraints in order to complete onsite audit activities, such as site visits and employee interviews, within a shorter period (i.e. an audit requiring two weeks’ worth of onsite activities using one auditor could be reduced to a single week using a second auditor for the same cost).

When conducting audits, we realize the importance of positing ourselves as members of our client’s team. From our auditor’s own previous operational experience first hand as a Health and Safety Manager for COR™ certified companies operating in AB, BC, and SK, we know first hand the lasting impact, both negative and positive, that an auditor can leave on a company post-audit. Because of this, and understanding that the mere presence of an auditor can change the normal daily behaviors of workers and potentially influence their performance during the period of being observed by an auditor, we make every attempt to support the tremendous efforts already exerted by our clients towards achieving their COR™ by facilitating positive interactions with all employees. Ultimately, we strive to act as ambassadors of the audit process so that everyone involved associates value with the entire experience. This is done through our adherence to our Core Values.
